Editorial Guidelines & Community Standards
FreshPress exists because editorial standards matter. These guidelines apply to all content on the platform. They are enforced by our editorial team and community moderation.
Source attribution requirements
All content uploaded to FreshPress must include accurate source attribution. This is non-negotiable.
- Source name (required): Who created or published the original material?
- Source URL (when available): Link to the original material online.
- Source date (when known): When was the original material created?
- Editorial attestation (required): Every uploader must attest that their source information is accurate and complete.
Content with missing, incomplete, or inaccurate source attribution is subject to review and removal.
Content standards
Accuracy
Factual claims presented as news or documentary content must be substantiated. If a claim cannot be independently verified, it should be clearly labeled as unverified or alleged. Corrections must be issued promptly and transparently when errors are identified.
Context
Content must provide sufficient context for the viewer to understand what they are watching. Misleading edits, deceptive framing, and deliberate omission of relevant context violate these standards.
Transparency
Conflicts of interest, funding sources, and editorial perspectives should be disclosed. Sponsored content must be clearly labeled. Opinion must be distinguished from reporting.
Prohibited content
- Deliberate misinformation or disinformation
- Content designed to harass, threaten, or incite violence against individuals or groups
- Copyright-infringing material uploaded without authorization or fair use justification
- Content that exploits minors in any way
- Spam, scams, or commercially deceptive content
- Content with fabricated or deliberately misleading source attribution
Community moderation
FreshPress operates on a trust-first model inspired by Wikipedia. Content is published immediately upon upload, and the community plays an active role in maintaining standards.
Flagging content
Any visitor can flag content that may violate these guidelines. When flagging, select the most appropriate reason:
- Misinformation: Content contains inaccurate factual claims
- Copyright concern: Content may infringe on copyright
- Missing source attribution: Source information is missing or inadequate
- Other: Any other concern about editorial standards
Review process
Flagged content is reviewed by our editorial team. Possible outcomes:
- No action: Content meets standards; flag is resolved
- Under review: Content remains accessible but is marked as under editorial review while claims are verified
- Correction: Contributor is asked to update source information or add context
- Removal: Content is removed for violating standards, with a public explanation
